How Long Does Rehab Take?

It would be great if there were one standard answer for everyone on how long rehab takes. People could block out that amount of time on their calendars and know when they will be complete.

Unfortunately, though, there is no magic number on how long rehab will take for anyone. Each person is different and comes with a different set of circumstances. One person may be be going to rehab with a reluctant attitude and therefore, the program will take much longer. Another person, who is extremely dedicated to recovering from an addiction, can move along much more swiftly and be done in faster time.

Then there are other issues to consider. Not only is an addict recovering from the physical toxins from the substance, but there are also having to deal with emotional issues that lie deeper than the actual addiction. The addiction formed from another reason outside of something feeling better. The addicts goes back for more and more because something was disturbing them on a deeper level in their normal lives.

It might not be the best news, but studies have proven that addicts, who spend more time in a rehabilitation program, actually have a better chance at long-term success. This is also a reason why maintenance after the recovery program is equally as important. Those who rush in and out of treatment are more likely to find themselves relapsing.
Recovering from any addiction is difficult and you must be steadfast with it.

If you walk into your rehab program with strong will and determination and the mindset of overcoming the addiction and knowing that you will get through it and be better for it, then your recovery program will serve you. When it is done effectively, the time doesn’t matter so much. It is a lifelong process, whether in a program or not.
